What is Vestibular Therapy?
Vestibular Physiotherapy addresses issues with the vestibular system which cause dizziness, vertigo and balance problems.
What is the Vestibular System?
The vestibular system, part of the inner ear, provides information to our brain and eyes about our body’s movement and head position. This allows us to move safely over uneven ground, see clearly when we are in motion, and maintain an upright position. This system can be damaged by illness/inflammation, trauma, or aging, which can result in feelings of spinning, dizziness, poor balance, vision disturbances, and spatial disorientation.
How do you Diagnose issues with the Vestibular System?
It is important to have a proper diagnosis of the cause of these symptoms. Here at Proactive Physiotherapy we use specialized testing including an infrared goggle system to identify the problem, from which we develop an appropriate treatment program. Annick deGooyer, our Vestibular Therapist, is one of one of only a few physiotherapists in the Okanagan to hold a Certificate in Vestibular Rehabilitation through Emory University in Atlanta, so we are confident when we say if you have dizziness or balance problems, you will be in good hands here!
Treatment Options
